Art is full of questions. Craft is full of answers.
For me, working with paint is without conscience or boundary. I feel free and exposed, like being naked at the grocery store. It's like really getting away with something. Wow! My heart beats fast. The hours disappear. Art makes some people uncomfortable. It catches them off guard and makes their eyebrows go up in the middle. Some folks turn away. Questions!
Throwing at the potter's wheel is my assurance that the world is spinning and confirms that I am spinning right along with it. Clay represents the safe port of home. It speaks of tradition and a life well-worn. Rough and ready, nice and steady, clay is social. Folks like to visit my studio and children trust me. With its comfort and understanding, craft is full of answers!
Clay is the calm. Paint is the storm.
